Day 11: Lago di Santa Croce to Venice 🇮🇹
Well, that was a big day on the bike. I climbed up through my last set of mountains with views of the lake/dam I had camped on and then descended down the other side with another series of aqua lakes and below another engineering marvel of a road system up in the sky above the valley.
My route then took me up into the hills through the Prosecco vineyards of the Conegliano region. Olive groves, pomegranate and Apricot orchards, and all so lush and green.
I went through an ancient cobbled village called Vittorio where a WWII battle had ensued. The bullet holes are visible in the buildings!
Treviso is a bustling large regional town and quite complex to navigate to get to upper overpasses 😳.
Today I cycled on bike paths, gravel mountain trails, back roads, main roads, farm roads through vineyards, a section of highway 😳.
I arrived at the Venezia Camping Village absolutely done. I just didn't have the energy for the complicated diversion to the bridge over to Venice and so will navigate that when fresher tomorrow. Dinner at the cafe at the campground.
It's been mentally tough being so very close but not actually getting on a ferry to explore Venice but I ran out of time, daylight and energy. So, tomorrow will be Venice exploration day!
So, Munich to Venice route complete. I really didn't know if I could ride my 40kg bike (80% are on ebikes!) over the Alps through Germany, Austria and then the Dolomites in Italy to the sea, but I did. 522kms and 4973m of elevation.
So, the first stage of my holiday complete ✅
