Day 17: Mt Triglav 🇸🇮descent
We woke from great sleeps. We both had top bunks and two thick Woolen blankets and comfy solid beds. There was an updated weather forecast that promised continual rain but no thunderstorms. We decided to make a go of it and so were at breakfast when they opened, ordered from the 3 option menu included in our tariff - 3 eggs, bread and a hot syrupy tea.
We definitely changed the age demographic with most being under 30yrs of age 😂
Well, what a day of mounteneering. Mostly downhill but nothing straightforward about it. Mixed terrain with sheer rock faces, thick stumbly gravel, metal ropes against the sheer rock face to hold on to and dodge the waterfalls flowing down, switchbacks etc. sometimes rounding the corner to strong winds too. Temps were around the 7-8 degrees and 2hrs into the hike we stopped to shelter in another hiking hut. I added two more layers of clothing and out we went into the roaring gale. This is Type 2 fun at its best and both of us enjoyed our hike today.
Several big highlights today were 1. the incredible waterfalls that were running down the rock as a result of the rain - had to go under many of them and the water was freezing!
2. Finding Tim’s glasses that we think we left at a rock where we had picnic yesterday and someone had placed them on the railing of a hut in that general area #winning
4. Immense feeling of satisfaction of climbing to 2500m through a range of challenging terrain yesterday and backing up today in constant pouring rain to return. 9hrs each way including stops for food etc.
Soooo a fabulous 2 day, 50,000 steps mountaineering adventure on Slovenia’s largest mountain!
