Day 19: Mojstrana to Jessenice + Nova Gorica 15kms 🚴‍♀️ plus train

We awoke feeling pretty fatigued still and with rain forecast, didn't feel like cycling the mountain pass I had planned for today.  We looked at a range of options and ended up riding in the opposite direction to a town on the railway line and have moved away from the north that has strong weather warnings and jumped 2 planned days of riding to the west and will now have some shorter riding days instead.
The undulating ride to Jessinice an industrial steel town followed the rushing river.  We arrived in time for the train schedule I had researched but found that there would be track work with rail replacement bus that doesn't take bikes.  The train a few hours later was going to go all the way through.  We killed some time at the beautiful railway cafe till the rain eased and then explored the Iron smelting history of the small town.  We had a picnic and then to the train.
The train ride goes through and around mountains and the rivers are rushing from all the rain!  Tall forested mountains either side of the track with little villages dotted amongst.
A much needed relaxed pace day (my first sort of day off since arriving in Europe).
We arrived in warmth and sunshine ☀️
We booked a funky hostel for tonight so we can dry out the tent and our hiking gear.
Our town is right on the border of Italy and so over the border we walked down to the old town Gorizia for dinner at a traditional Italian Trattoria as recommended by our hostel host.  The castle on the hill is lit up and all the old town buildings on the square look beautiful at night with their shutters.
