Dobbiaco - Cortina 27kms 🚴♀️
I enjoyed my mountain view brekky at the campground before packing up a very dewey tent.
The first 15 kms were uphill on a chunky gravel path, as the path climbs through a pass between soaring mountains. Many electric mountain bikers and guided day trip riders out today too. I passed the lookout spot where the Three Peaks were visible. It's hard to believe I was up there just yesterday!
At the top of the pass I put on a jacket and headed down the other side. The chunky gravel slowed down my efforts but so scenic!
In an unexpected plot twist, near the base of the mountain descent I took a turn towards the hospital. This was unfortunately located up a 1.5km switchback climb and has beautiful views. Tim insisted I go and had googled the address for me. Well turns out just as well I did. I had battled some symptoms which resulted in swollen face and a body covered in hives 🙄. I was hoping it would just go away but it didn't.
The staff were excellent and caring and the triage girl took my details. I showed her my rash and she immediately called the doctor who brought me straight in and within 5 mins I was on the bed with IV in my arm and a shot of antihistamine and a bag of fluids. A severe allergy reaction 🙄. I was observed for 4 hours before being released with a script for meds. Soooo my 100km ride cut short and I'm staying in a hotel in Cortina instead.
The bike secure lockup in the hotel is in the ski room (pronounced “sky” room 😂) down 2 flights of stairs 🙄
I had a shower and went for a short wander in this stylish alpine village which will host some Winter Olympic events in Feb. Outdoorsy meets Gucci 😂.
A gelati while I wandered and then dinner at the restaurant recommended by the receptionist when I asked her.
Back to my room and I'm exhausted.
Dr said to listen to my body but should be ok to ride tomorrow.
It is what it is, and I'm glad I got such great care from the efficient and friendly team at the hospital.
